Breaking with most of his Democratic colleagues, Schneider joined 30 Democrats and 182 Republicans in voting against expelling Santos Wednesday in Washington, saying he wants to see the committee’s findings before making a final judgment.
Rather than vote to expel Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., from the U.S. House of Representatives now, U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Highland Park, said he chose to wait to make a decision until the House Committee on Ethics completes its investigation of the embattled congressman by Nov 17. “Before voting to expel George Santos, I would like to receive and review the investigation from the Ethics Committee, which is expected by November 17.” Schneider said in an email Thursday.

With the Ethics Committee saying Wednesday it will announce the next steps in its investigation Nov. 17, it has already contacted 40 witnesses and issued 47 subpoenas, according to The Associated Press. Santos faces charges on 23 counts of fraud and other wrongdoing in federal court in New York, according to a news release issued Oct.
