Senator Tammy Baldwin and a group of Democratic senators introduced an amendment to the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) aimed at removing a restriction on transgender procedures for minors. The amendment seeks to overturn a provision in the House-passed version of the NDAA that prevents the military healthcare program from covering treatments deemed to 'result in sterilization' for individuals under 18.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., on Monday led a group of Democratic senators in proposing an amendment to the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act which would remove a restriction on transgender procedures for minors.
With the legislation now in the Senate, 21 Democratic senators wrote in a press release their amendment is necessary to allow military families the right to make their own decisions. Our amendment would protect military families’ right to make their own decisions and access sometimes lifesaving care for their children,” she added.
In a statement to The National News Desk last week, Speaker Johnson said Republicans would "continue to take action to protect America's kids."
