A New York City jury convicted the New Jersey Democrat of accepting bribes to benefit businessmen in his home state and the governments of Egypt and Qatar.
A federal jury in Manhattan found Sen. Robert Menendez guilty of accepting bribes to benefit businessmen in New Jersey, as well as the governments of Egypt and Qatar.
The jury found Menendez guilty of all 16 counts. He had pleaded not guilty to 16 criminal counts, including bribery, obstruction of justice, acting as a foreign agent and honest services wire fraud. Menendez was tried alongside two businessmen accused of bribing him: Egyptian-American Wael Hana and real estate developer Fred Daibes. A third businessman, Jose Uribe, pleaded guilty and testified against the trio.Jurors had been instructed that they must be unanimous on each of the counts against the defendants in the case.
