The DNC is launching a six-figure ad campaign highlighting the importance of abortion in the 2024 presidential election as the party seeks to control messaging on the crucial campaign issue.
The DNC will begin airing ads in several battleground states this week to highlight how the election may determine the future of abortion access, hoping to paint Democrats as the party fighting to keep abortion legal nationwide. The ad campaign coincides with the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which paved the way for states to enact abortion restrictions or even ban the procedure.
The ads will begin running on Thursday and will include digital billboards in Atlanta, Georgia; Phoenix, Arizona; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Tallahassee, Florida; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Times Square in New York City. The campaign will also run ads on Facebook, Instagram, and CTV in the battleground states of Wisconsin, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and Arizona.
Several Republican presidential candidates have positioned themselves as staunchly anti-abortion, with many vowing to push for stricter restrictions nationwide. Trump has especially honed in on the issue, taking credit for the reversal of Roe v. Wade last year and the statewide bans that followed.
That could put Democrats in a good position ahead of the 2024 cycle as the party heavily relied on abortion messaging during the 2022 midterms and often credit the issue for their better-than-expected performance. The voter response prompted Republican leaders to propose a shift in strategy, advising candidates to embrace anti-abortion talking points rather than shying away from the issue altogether.
