Hakeem Jeffries is egging Trump on.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., speaks during the Democratic National Convention Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, in Chicago. The top House Democrat leader is egging President-elect Donald Trump on as he continues to tap House Republicans for Cabinet roles.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries encouraged Trump to keep selecting GOP lawmakers for top administration roles on Tuesday. Trump has selected a handful of House Republicans to serve in his administration, shrinking the already slim-majority the GOP has in the House. Jeffries told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Tuesday that Republicans will have the “smallest majority since 1931,” adding that they will need to work across the aisle to get their agenda done. She then asked what was going through Jeffries’s head when he saw Trump pick three House Republicans to serve in his administration, noting that the GOP majority will be 217-215 with those lawmakers gone.
“I mean, at the end of the day, during the first 100 days of the Trump administration, as you indicated, 217 to 215, meaning, my Republican colleagues can’t lose a single vote, in order to get anything done, which is why, by necessity, we should embrace bipartisanship to solve problems for everyday Americans,” he added.
Trump selected Rep. Elise Stefanik to be his U.N ambassador and tapped Rep. Mike Waltz to be his national security advisor. He also picked former Rep. Matt Gaetz to be his attorney general, but he withdrew from consideration last month and has revealed he will not be returning to Congress in 2025.If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
