Monica De La Cruz in a South Texas district that was home to one of the most closely watched races in the 2022 midterms.
But Vallejo would need to gain significant ground after losing by more than 8 percentage points in the once Democratic stronghold that the Trump-backed insurance agent De La Cruz flipped in 2022. Vallejo was outmatched in that race by a wave of Republican outside spending in a district that favored former President Donald Trump in 2020 by just 3 percentage points.
