U.S. officials have expressed 'grave concern' over an incident of martial law being declared this week in South Korea.

Campbell, while expressing concerns, stressed that America’s alliance with South Korea is “ironclad, and we stand by Korea in their time of uncertainty. I also want to just underscore that we have every hope and expectation that any political disputes will be resolved peacefully and in accordance with the rule of law.”
Lee was born and raised in Seoul and said her older friends and relatives in South Korea harbor more fear that such an incident can escalate or that the military could act violently against civilians. “South Korean democracy was tested at this time, and I think it all of those hurdles pretty well,” Lee said.
