DeMeco Ryans meets with the Houston media in his introductory press conference as the new...
Ryans, the Texans' second-round pick in 2006, played six of his 10 NFL seasons in Houston. He was the league's defensive rookie of the year and made two Pro Bowls with Houston before finishing his career in Philadelphia.
Ryans spent the past six seasons on the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff, getting promoted to defensive coordinator in 2021. Under Ryans' tutelage, the 49ers had the top-ranked defense in fewest yards allowed and points allowed per game this season. They also forced the second-most turnovers in the regular season.
Now, he replaces Lovie Smith as head coach and tries to re-energize a franchise that has won just 11 total games in the past three seasons.
