The Democratic Socialists of America on Tuesday celebrated Vice President Kamala Harris ’s decision to choose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, touting him as a preferential option over Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro .after Harris did not select Gov. Shapiro , a Jewish man, to be her running mate. Some alleged the decision showed Democratic bias against Jewish people. Harris ’s decision to tap Gov.
“Harris choosing Walz as a running mate has shown the world that DSA and our allies on the left are a force that cannot be ignored,” the DSA wrote. “Through collective action, DSA and the US left more broadly have made it clear that change is needed. DSA members organized in our workplaces and unions to realign the labor movement to support Palestinian liberation.”
The group continued, noting Harris must now call for a ceasefire in the Middle East and embargo all future shipments of weapons to Israel. “Democratic Party politics have not changed, but the voices of millions of Americans are now demanding better from the President on Palestine and more,” the DSA wrote. “We are raising expectations, and we won't rest until the genocide is ended and all people can be free.”The group has become openly critical of leading Democrats for couching their stances toward the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
