Delta Taxis has won a legal battle with Uber , meaning a landmark ruling which could have seen private hire fares rise by 20% across the country has been overturned. The Court of Appeal yesterday ruled in favour of Merseyside's Delta Taxis and fellow firm Veezu, who wanted to revoke the VAT hike, after a case was brought to the High Court by Uber . In March 2021, Uber raised its prices after the government mandated a 20% VAT fee on app-booked journeys.
Layla Barke-Jones, dispute resolution partner at Aaron & Partners, who represented Delta Taxis in the case, said: “Today’s decision handed down by the Court of Appeal is a victory for the taxi industry and all those who depend on it. This was a landmark case, the result of which could have had a terrible impact on the lives of so many people – not to mention the administrative burden for operators.
