Monday marks day five of jury deliberations in the Karen Read murder trial.
Karen Read arrives at Norfolk Superior Court, Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in Dedham, Mass. Read is on trial, accused of killing her boyfriend Boston police Officer John O'Keefe, in 2022. The jury began deliberations in the trial Tuesday. Despite an "exhaustive review of the evidence," the jury of six men and six women say they haven't reached a unanimous verdict.
NBC 10 Legal Analyst Mark Dana says the judge will likely issue an Allen charge or special instructions today to help the jury come to an agreement. “No other 12 people can do this. You’re the ones that were picked, you need to go in there and come to a verdict. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t,” said Dana.
A handful of protestors showed up Friday to counter the Karen Read supporters who continue to gather outside the courthouse wearing pink and holding signs.“There are people who believe Karen is guilty. Most normal people don’t show up and tailgate a murder trial. We are here to support the O’Keefe who have been harassed relentlessly,” said one protestor.“I could not sit there and let an innocent woman be framed,” said another protestor at a rally Friday.
