ONE of the detained suspects in the brazen killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and 10 others has formally recanted his statement given to police investigators.
Osmundo Rivero, represented by counsel Harold Montalbo, on Monday filed before the Department of Justice a counter-affidavit and an affidavit of recantation, claiming that he was coerced by police investigators in linking Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. to the crime.'We filed Mr. Osmundo Rivero's counter-affidavit. We also had him swear an affidavit of recantation, wherein he recants his earlier statements,' Montalbo told reporters.
In his counter-affidavit submitted to DoJ prosecutors, Rivero claimed that the coercion took place while he was detained at Camp Crame.'It is not true that I know someone named Marvin [Miranda]. It is also untrue that I pointed out the photo of Congressman Teves when four photos were shown to me, because I don't know him and I have never seen him before,' he said in his counter-affidavit.
