WALNUT CREEK — A Rossmoor resident died Saturday night when he was hit by a car that jumped a curb in an apparent DUI crash involving a defrocked Oakland priest, authorities said.City officials early Tuesday said police arrested
, 75, on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI. Kiesle served prison time after pleading guilty to molesting a girl in 1995 and was accused of sexually abusing many more.The crash killed 64-year-old Curtis Gunn, whom authorities identified Tuesday morning.According to police spokesman Lt. Holley Connors, the crash happened about 9:15 p.m. on Tice Creek Drive.Gunn was injured seriously and was transported by ambulance to a hospital. He died there.
Kiesle, who was defrocked from the Catholic Church in 1987, has also been named in several civil lawsuits. In a statement about Gunn’s death, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests said, “Our hearts go out to the victim’s widow, while at the same time we cannot help but remember that her husband is only the latest person to have their life destroyed by this former Diocese of Oakland cleric.”
Laurelyn Gunn told the Rossmoor News that she and her husband were walking home and were approaching an intersection when they were hit by the vehicle, which at some point jumped the curb.
