Maynard on Tuesday night pleaded not guilty to rough conduct and not guilty to careless conduct.
Giving evidence, Maynatd said he genuinely attempted to smother the ball and was not expecting Brayshaw to move inward after disposing of the ball. He said what he did was a “football act” and that he had no alternative.Collingwood, in addition to Maynard’s evidence, relied on evidence from biomechanist Michael Cole, who said Maynard had no opportunity to avoid the collision once airborne.
Pies football boss Graham Wright said Maynard was “really pleased” but added the club’s thoughts remained with Brayshaw.
