Summit's defense held Oak Knoll to just three goals en route to the title

Summit has gotten used to seeing Oak Knoll in the Union County Tournament final, as the crosstown rivals have battled it out in the title game for the past nine years.

“It feels so great, especially for the alumni, this is the first time we’ve won since 2019 and we won it for them,” Summit’s Susannah O’Connell said. “I know the underclassmen and the juniors wanted it for the captains and our seniors and it feels just really good to finally bring it home. In the second quarter, Summit scored four-straight goals in the span of about three minutes for a 4-1 lead with 8:03 left. A free position goal from Sophia Loschert cut it to 4-2 with 3:46 to play, but a goal from Lindsay Thomas with 39 seconds left sent the game to halftime with Summit up 5-2.

“We really emphasized our poise and possession, and I think that we really executed that well in this game today,” Ducey said. Both sides performed well on the draw, with Summit winning 10 to Oak Knoll’s eight. Lauren Riley led the way with six, while Loschert led with four for the Royals.
