Huntsville Center officials told auditors they have taken a series of corrective actions.
An Army Corps of Engineers facility in Huntsville is revising its policies after a Defense Department audit found it improperly allowed contractors to install lighting devices made in foreign countries, including China, at the Pentagon and a naval center in Virginia.by the Defense Inspector General’s office faulted contracting personnel at the Corps’ U.S.
Pentagon and the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Va., complied with the Buy American Act. The Huntsville Center was one of four installations that dealt with contracts covered in the audit but accounted for the lion’s share of the $34.9 million in contracts reviewed. The Buy American Act of 1933 requires the government, with limited exceptions, to buy domestic end products used in building, altering and repairing public buildings. Its provisions apply to contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, and require contracting agencies to include language, documents and checks meant to ensure compliance.
