Wehrlein is reportedly okay after his Porsche flipped through the air and skidded upside down across the track.
With five laps remaining in the extended Sao Paulo E Prix, the defending Formula E champion Pascal Wehrlein was pinched into the barriers while racing tire to tire with Nick Cassidy. Wehrlein's Porsche was flipped in the air and landed on the halo before sliding down the straight.
The driver was reported okay after the incident but was stuck in his vehicle and needed help from race officials to get out. Wehrlein started his defending championship campaign perfectly, capturing pole position in the final duel against Oliver Rowland. When the crash occurred, Wehrelein and Cassidy were running in second and third position behind Cassidy's Jaguar teammate Mitch Evans. Remarkably, Cassidy rejoined the field after the incident, but Wehrlein's race ended with the red flag producing a crash. Cassidy ultimately finished 14th, one lap of the pace and one position ahead of the retired Wehrlein. The race restarted with Evans in the lead; after a poor qualifying result, Evans started last, moving up 21 positions to claim the first victory of the 2024-2025 season. In his post-race interview, Evans was quick to acknowledge the amount of luck that had to fall his way to move from last to first for just the second time in Formula E history and also his relief that Wehrlein walked away okay from his accident.'It was great to see Pascal walk away from that accident,' Evans said.
