The accused ringleader appeared in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
MCSO arrests 29 in what it calls active criminal dog fighting ringSome pleaded guilty to the charges while others claimed they weren’t aware of any dog fighting going on at the property. Defense attorneys for several of the accused suspects claimed their clients thought they were attending a barbeque.
MCSO investigators presented photos showing the ring at the house, a number of guns, and almost twenty pounds of marijuana.Latner says Marks owned several treadmills, dog leashes, and found one dog severely bleeding. According to testimony, the detective says deputies used drones to conduct surveillance at the house. Latner testified they have video showing several people walking in and out of a storage shed with large amounts of cash.He says Trotter claimed she didn’t know about the dog fighting going on and thought it was a cookout.“The arresting officer was unable to identify my client, wasn’t the one to take him into physical custody, nor witness my client around any fighting dogs,” Elmore said. “We allege and assert that my client was simply there to enjoy the barbeque.”Sharee Broussard with Mobile County says the animals won’t be euthanized but can’t be adopted.
