The Texas Railroad Commission's investigation into the Deer Park pipeline explosion reveals that the pipeline itself was not at fault and no safety violations were found.

A recent report from the Texas Railroad Commission, the state agency responsible for pipeline regulation, revealed that the Deer Park pipeline explosion investigation found no safety violations. The report, obtained by KPRC 2, details the events leading up to the crash and the swift recovery efforts that brought the pipeline back online within a week. On September 16, 2024, a vehicle driven by Jonathan McEvoy, 51, of Deer Park , collided with the pipeline off Spencer Highway.

The investigation concluded that the pipeline itself was not at fault but rather the accident was triggered when the car struck it, damaging a protruding section. According to the report, the 20-inch pipeline spans six counties and 126 miles. The fire originated from a three-inch blowdown valve, a component that extends above ground, enabling crews to manage the flow of the pipeline below.Despite the intensity of the fire, the investigation found no safety violations. The pipeline was operating correctly until it was intentionally struck by the vehicle. While many homes in the area are undergoing repairs or complete reconstruction, some families, like the Rodriguez Family, remain apprehensive about returning. Some are even considering selling their properties due to lingering concerns about safety. In a proactive move to prevent future incidents, Energy Transfer, the pipeline owner, has installed large concrete barriers around the site and other vulnerable locations. Although not legally mandated, these barriers serve as a precautionary measure to deter vehicles from colliding with pipeline components. This initiative aims to enhance safety and alleviate community anxieties, reducing the likelihood of a similar event occurring again
