The Ally Box project began with the racial reckoning in the U.S. as people reached out to her wanting to understand more about race and the history of racism in order to be better allies to the Black community. The kit included several books along with resources on what they could do in order to be a better ally in one, two and three-month packages.

Plus,"we built an online learning collaborative where folks can engage with other people who are on a similar journey as them," Asamoa-Caesar told USA TODAY, noting the online learning collaborative has led to fruitful discussions about race. The"Little & Lit" monthly subscription box came out of interest from Ally Box, though Asamoa-Caesar has always wanted to do a subscription box for children."There was a hashtag that was 'decolonize your bookshelf,' and people wanted to do the same thing for their kids," Asamoa-Caesar said.
