In Kisimu county, police have retailated with teargas and gunshots in the air to disperse protesters in Kisumu who were pelting them with stones. The protesters defied the call by Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o, to march towards Nyamsaria in the outskirts of Kisumu city along Kisumu Nairobi highway. He also urged protesters to march peacefully, not destroying property. The protesters accused Nyong'o of betraying opposition leader, Raila Odinga. Kenya's Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome told reporters on March 26 that the protests were "illegal" and would be banned.
