Plans have been approved for a former gym to become new homes. Erewash Borough council has approved plans to convert the building and create a house in multiple occupation and three flats at the former Intrim Health Studios in Long Eaton.
In March this year, plans were submitted for the site to be converted to a 10 bedroom HMO and commercial retail unit. However, those plans were withdrawn on May 3 and new plans were resubmitted on May 17 which have now been approved.“If there’s a space and people want to turn it into flats then there’s not much you can do about it, it may as well be a house with people in it other than a place that’s boarded and an eyesore,” said 75-year-old Peter Bennette, from Sawley.
“I don’t know about more housing in the town but listening and reading the papers always tell you about the need for more housing. If they're flats that are being used then why not.” “There’s lots of buildings that can be used for flats. I don’t like the idea, it shouldn't be turned into flats.”
