Nottinghamshire County Council said the plan was 'too intensive'

A key decision has been made on the future of a Nottinghamshire pub more than a decade after it closed. The former Shakespeare Inn on High Pavement, Sutton-in-Ashfield, shut its doors for the last time back in 2009, according to the Campaign for Real Ale.

Construction had previously started on five flats in 2020, but applicant J. Williams applied to expand the project earlier this year. Nottinghamshire County Council, which manages Ashfield's highways, said the plan was "too intensive" as a result and asked for more information about parking, paths and bike storage on the site.

The developer behind the plans had amended initial designs to make sure the homes met national standards for living spaces. The council said the proposals would noy result in a loss of privacy for neighbours to the south.
