The Gulfstream G100 had been flying from Bermuda to Boston when it disappeared from radar early that morning. The six people on board - four crew members and two passengers - are still unaccounted for.
The US Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation after the Federal Aviation Administration reported contact with the plane was lost. air traffic controllers had struggled to communicate with the pilot as the plane descended rapidly, losing nearly 13,000 feet in just two minutes. The aircraft was carrying a patient and a family member from Bermuda, along with a crew of Canadian citizens.
Bermuda Premier David Burt expressed hope for the safe return of the passengers,while the US Coast Guard continues its search efforts through the night. The pLane's abrupt descent and loss of communication indicate a possible emergency situation during the flight.
