A growing debate over the greatest Saturday Night Live cast member of all time seems to have Kate McKinnon in the lead. Since the show's inception in 1975, SNL has had several notably hilarious cast members whose iconic roles are still quoted today. Some cast members have had longer-term stays, such as McKinnon, who spent a decade on the show. McKinnon began her SNL run in 2012 and left last year in May 2022.

SiriusXM host Eric Alper asked Twitter, "who is the best SNL character of all time?" People overwhelmingly flocked towards one response: McKinnon. Tweets include clips from McKinnon's most iconic SNL moments.
Some of McKinnon's peer cast members have also had their fair share of standout moments on SNL. While perhaps not always carrying the same gravitas as McKinnon, Strong portrayed a fair share of classic skits, consistently causing hilarity to ensue on Weekend Update, for example. Kenan Thompson would be another one to consider in the running, for he has maintained the audience's attention for 20 years as one of the longest-running Saturday Night Live cast members.
Who Will Be 2023's Big Saturday Night Live Star? Whoever could be considered the "best" among this newer generation, the 2010s and early 2020s have arguably brought about one of the best arrangements of SNL cast members since its inception. Highlights have included the Strong, Che, and Thompson, but have also included the likes of comedic powerhouses like Pete Davison, Aidy Bryant, and Leslie Jones.
