Darren Greenham was reported to police and council officials for years before he caused a gas explosion that killed George Hinds, with George's mum saying the death of her son was avoidable
Darren Greenham caused misery for his neighbours during five years of anti-social behaviour involving verbal abuse, obnoxious noise, and dangerous fires.
Late night hammering and drilling became an all too frequent problem as Greenham carried out unauthorised DIY even before he began his idiotic scheme ripping out gas pipes using an angle grinder. Loud music was also a regular problem in the early hours of the morning and the abuse extended to calling George a “ginger little c***”.
One neighbour described Greenham as an “accident waiting to happen”, while George's parents and the Evans family continued to lodge their complaints. In her statement, Ms Studholme said: “Before this incident, I felt unsafe in my own home because of Darren Greenham. He was literally the neighbour from hell.
The court heard that eviction proceedings were beginning but no notice had yet been served when Greenham caused the fatal explosion. When asked about its involvement Lancaster City Council's leader, Councillor Caroline Jackson, said it would be inappropriate to comment in detail at this stage.
