In today's Dear Annie column, Annie Lane has some advice for a reader who wants to move on from her broken marriage, but worries divorce will leave her in financial perils as she retires.
Selling their house is only the start of one woman's financial concerns as she reaches out to Annie Lane for advice on dealing with her unfaithful husband. My husband and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary this year. Here’s the problem: I caught him sleeping with a friend of ours three years ago at our home while I was at work. I became suspicious and set up a nanny cam, and it was all on video.
I kicked him out of the house, and he set himself up a tiny house out behind our garage. He tries to act like nothing happened. He got to where he would use his key and let himself into my house like he still lives here. I have now changed the locks. It’s hard to move on when he’s in the back of our garage. I don’t want him back; I do know that. I’ve always said if you can’t trust a person, there is no point in being with him. My problem is if I try to make him move, I have to sell the house if he won’t take my offer, and I would have to split my pension with him. How do I move on without going broke at 68 years old? Thanks for your input. -- Coping with a Cheating HusbandYou have to consult an attorney.
