DEAR ANNIE: I have a dear friend from high school who I’ve never lost touch with. We have the kind of friendship where it doesn’t matter if we haven’t talked for months; she is there to listen and stand up for me. As we’ve grown older, our lives have changed. She has gotten married, and I have a long-term partner. After much difficult effort, she got pregnant and finally had a daughter whom the whole family dotes on.
I only see her in person a couple of times a year at most; it hasn’t even been that often since the pandemic. Also, if she wants to have a nice environment for her biological daughter, emotionally abusing her stepbrothers is going to damage her little girl as well. Blending families can be tricky but also beautiful when done with awareness, kindness and patience.DEAR ANNIE: I was with my last partner for two years, until January of this year. I love him, even though it didn’t work out.
