Phoenix Suns lost Game 1 in embarrassing fashion, 125-107, as they trailed No. 1 seed Denver by as many as 25 points.
The bench wound up with 24 points Saturday, but 18 came in the fourth quarter when the game got out hand and Williams sat the starters the game’s final 5:09.
Williams said the Suns were playing slow with perhaps his fastest player, Cameron Payne, watching from the bench.Payne should be a bigger part of that table discussion going into Game 2.This is the series the Suns are going to have to defend. The Clippers scored 130 on them in Game 5 without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and with Russell Westbrook missing 15 shots. He had offensive rebounds that mostly were tips, but those helped Denver maintain possession.
Then again, Gordon played in that third Nuggets-Suns matchup in the regular season when Denver was without its four remaining starters.
