Daley Smith caused controversy by comparing himself to gunman Raoul Moat and claiming police had more chance of finding Madeleine McCann
A drug-dealing criminal who taunted police on Facebook was caught up in a plot to flood a Cheshire town with almost £750,000 of cocaine and heroin.
But instead of handing himself in, Smith decided to promote the police's wanted appeal on his Facebook page. Smith made a mockery of the appeal with regular updates, videos, pictures and memes while on the run. One 'throwback' video appeared to show him following a marked police car on the M6 as he made his way from Blackpool to Cheshire. Another post claimed he was on the road again with a picture taken from the back of a van heading up the M6.
As part of search efforts, police raided a house in Stoke-on-Trent four times in nine days. Officers swooped on the address in Ulverston Road, Newstead. During one visit, armed police threatened to Taser a man inside the property, handcuffed him, took him to a police station, and analysed his phone records.
It read: "Plot twist: Guess who's back, back again, Daley's back, tell a friend. Guess who's back, guess who's back? Guess who's back, guess who's back? Guess who's back, guess who's back? Guess who's back?" In an effort to dispel his "hard man image'", Smith also tried to promote good causes by sharing Just Giving pages of those in need.
