Deputies are investigating a fatal shooting incident that occurred near Blaine, Washington, over the weekend. According to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), on Saturday, January 11, at approximately 10:27 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a domestic violence situation in the 8300 block of Valley View Road in Custer, Washington. While en route, dispatchers received another 911 call indicating shots fired at the location.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered 52-year-old Angel Rodriguez deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.The investigation revealed that a verbal altercation had escalated between Rodriguez and 43-year-old Valentin Rivera. Witnesses stated that both individuals had been consuming alcohol, and the argument initiated when Rivera attempted to prevent Rodriguez from driving under the influence. The dispute culminated in Rivera allegedly shooting Rodriguez. The investigation further uncovered probable cause to arrest Rivera for assaulting two additional victims during the domestic dispute. Both victims received medical attention at the scene, with one subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.Rivera was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for a medical evaluation. After being medically cleared, he was booked into the Whatcom County Jail, facing charges of second-degree murder and second- and fourth-degree domestic violence assault.
