A deadly crash involving at least 15 vehicles shut down Interstate 65 southbound in Butler County, Alabama, for nearly 10 hours on Tuesday. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) reported that the crash occurred near the 122 mile marker, approximately between the Georgiana and Greenville/Pine Apple exits. The wintry weather conditions, including snow and ice, significantly hampered the cleanup and removal of vehicles from the scene.

Interstate 65 southbound was cleared shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, 10 hours after a deadly crash involving at least 15 vehicles in Butler County . Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon confirmed a single death to WSFA 12 News. Few other details about the crash were immediately available. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the roadway was cleared around 9:55 p.m., but that the affected stretch of interstate remains impassable because of snow and ice. The crash happened around 12:15 p.m.
