At least three protesters were killed and over 40 injured in southern Lebanon on Sunday after Israeli forces opened fire on demonstrators attempting to breach Israeli-imposed roadblocks. The protests were sparked by Israel's failure to meet the 60-day deadline for troop withdrawal from southern Lebanon, with protesters demanding full Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity.

At least three people were killed and more than 40 others injured in southern Lebanon on Sunday when Israeli forces opened fire on protesters. The demonstrators, some carrying Hezbollah flags, had breached roadblocks set up by the Israeli army the day before. The protests erupted over Israel's failure to withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon by the 60-day deadline.

This deadline was established after a recent conflict, and the Lebanese army has not yet fully deployed to all areas of southern Lebanon to ensure that Hezbollah does not reestablish a military presence there. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun addressed the people of southern Lebanon in a statement, asserting that Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable. He pledged to address the issue at the highest levels to protect their rights and dignity. The Lebanese army issued a separate statement, saying it was escorting civilians into some towns in the border area and urging residents to follow military instructions for their safety. Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, whose Amal Movement party is allied with Hezbollah and who has served as an interlocutor between the militant group and the US during ceasefire negotiations, condemned the bloodshed, calling it a clear and urgent appeal to the international community to act immediately and compel Israel to withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories. Israeli officials have stated their desire to remain in southern Lebanon for a longer period to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing a military presence in the region. Protesters on Sunday flew Hezbollah flags near an Israeli military vehicle after crossing an Israeli roadblock on a road to Kfar Kila. The Israeli army's Arabic language spokesman urged residents of the border area not to attempt to return to their villages on Sunday morning. An Associated Press team was stranded overnight at a base of the UN peacekeeping force known as UNIFIL near Mays al-Jabal after the Israeli army erected roadblocks on Saturday while they were joining a patrol by peacekeepers. The journalists reported hearing gunshots and booming sounds on Sunday morning from the base, indicating that dozens of protesters had gathered nearby
