Given the number of unforced changes made by the British & Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland in their three tests against the Springboks, the logical conclusion to reach was that the visitors were searching for answers throughout the series because the Bok combinations were blunting them.
The area most affected was the centre, where three different pairings were used over the three matches, with Robbie Henshaw and Elliot Daly starting the first test, Henshaw and Chris Harris the second, and Bundee Aki and Henshaw fronting up in the decider.
