While The Brave and The Bold continues to be in development, one of the popular casting choices for the DC hero is already getting a lot of support for him as James Gunn's Caped Crusader. Eventually, the DC Universe's Chapter 1:"Gods and Monsters" will finally see the Dark Knight in Gunn's superhero franchise, with several actors already being suggested by the audience as the iconic role.
During his appearance on the TODAY show, Brandon Sklenar, who has expressed interest in playing Batman in the DCU, was asked if there was any truth to him potentially being the one to suit up as the next big-screen version of the hero. Sklenar stated, "I mean that would be a dream, wouldn’t it? I was working in Spain and as I walked down the street someone called ‘Batman!’" The star went on to add, "It’s wild, and I’m always surprised by it. You don’t realize the reach of these things." However, Sklenar stressed that "I am super grateful for the support in that, it would obviously be a dream to do that—it would be so surreal." The Brave and The Bold movie is still being written, as DC Studios is working out the creative vision for the DCU's version of Batman, with Andy Muschietti set to direct the Chapter 1:"Gods and Monsters" installment. ScreenRant's own Ash Crossan spoke with Sklenar back in April 2025, where he said the following about whether he and Gunn had talked about the role at all: Brandon Sklenar: I mean, for Batman? Let's keep running with that! That's something I've wanted to do since I was a little kid -- and I've never even talked about it -- It just started happening and I was like,"This is cool!" And now, maybe, hopefully, it happens one day. I'd love to do it. It's literally a childhood dream to do something like that, specifically that character. If I ever to do any type of thing in the superhero space, that's what it would be.Brandon Sklenar: Yeah. I think there's some awareness of me on some level, probably. But yeah, I know they're a ways away from doing that. But yeah, obviously, the little kid in me, and the adult me is, like,"This is cool!" And I have a bunch of ideas. Anyway, it'd be cool. Gunn recently said that casting and writing Batman right for the DCU are most important to DC Studios. However, the casting search for The Brave and The Bold will not start until they have finalized the screenplay. However, the DCU timeline is already set to explore the world of Gotham City before the iconic hero makes his live-action appearance. 2026 has the R-rated Clayface movie coming out on September 11, focusing on the iconic Batman enemy.
