The Washington, D.C., Metro announced major construction plans for the Orange, Silver, and Green lines for summer 2023.
Construction on the three lines will begin May 12, five days after the transit company will complete its project on the Yellow line that shut the line down in September to include new stops and updated rail lines. The work on the Orange, Silver, and Green lines will consist of"system maintenance and modernization," including rail replacement, fiber optic cable installation, and improved station facilities.
Customers using stations outside of the work zones will continue to have normal or near-normal service outside, with frequent service on the busiest parts of the system in the downtown core area, particularly stations that house multiple lines. Between Rosslyn and Stadium-Armory on the Orange/Silver lines and between L’Enfant Plaza and Mt. Vernon Square on the Green line, trains will arrive at stations every 4-6 minutes all day.Toward New Carrollton: Cheverly, Deanwood, and Minnesota Avenue stations from May 12-2
Toward Vienna: Dunn Loring, East Falls Church, and Ballston-MU stations from June 3-25. Vienna and West Falls Church stations from June 3-July 16.Toward Greenbelt: Fort Totten Station from July 22-23. West Hyattsville, Hyattsville Crossing, College Park-University of Maryland, and Greenbelt stations from July 22-Sept. 4.
