Three Maryland gun shops are being charges with selling Attorneys General for D.C. and Maryland are working with gun safety advocates to sue three gun dealers a
D.C. Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb, Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, and Everytown Law announced on Sept. 3, 2024, a lawsuit against three federally licensed gun dealers for facilitating illegal gun trafficking, mainly into the District.
Those three federally licensed companies, Engage Armament, United Gun Shop, and Atlantic Guns, were accused by officials of ignoring warning signs and providing weapons to the same man, Demetrius Minor, over a seven-month period in 2021. Gun stores are obligated to catch warning signs for straw purchases, per the attorneys general, but court documents claimed that Minor repeatedly purchased firearms from all three vendors within days of the previous order. Minor allegedly purchased 25 guns from Engage within a five-month period alone, nearly all of which were sold to others.
The civil lawsuit against the companies was formally filed Tuesday in a joint effort by the D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb's office and the litigation team for Everytown for Gun Safety.
