My Adventures With Superman Removes The DC Costume's Trunks In A Suit Upgrade Following My Adventures With Superman's adaptation of Alan Moore's "For the Man Who Has Everything," the black suit Superman wore while under Braniac's influence was transformed into an upgraded version of the red and blue costume he had worn throughout the show's first two seasons.
Having no trunks on Superman costumes first gained major prominence in DC's New 52 reboot in 2011, and then in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel in 2013. Various live action and animated adaptations that followed remained consistent with both New 52 and Man of Steel, making it feel like the modern take on Superman's suit was here to stay.
