Slated for a September 2026 launch, Doom Patrol #1 will be written by Eisner Award-winning Canadian writer Darcy Van Poelgeest, known for his acclaimed work on Little Bird, with art by the equally celebrated Canadian artist Niko Henrichon, whose notable credits include Pride of Baghdad and Spectators. This fresh iteration reimagines the team's foundational premise, depicting the Doom Patrol as being in dire financial straits.
To survive, they adopt an unconventional heroes-for-hire model, accepting a seemingly trivial case of a missing cat. However, the investigation rapidly escalates, plunging the world's strangest heroes into a crisis of cosmic proportions. Simultaneously, a more sinister development unfolds: a ghost from the team's past is making moves to cross into their world, threatening their fragile stability from beyond the veil of reality.
The creative team of Van Poelgeest and Henrichon promises to usher the Doom Patrol into a daring new age, blending the team's established legacy of body horror and existential weirdness with a sharp, character-driven narrative and a distinctly Canadian creative perspective. The core team is led by iconic members Robotman, Elasti-Girl, and Negative Man, who must navigate this new business paradigm while confronting this resurrected threat.
