The Department of Health (DOH) said on Friday that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) is looking for funding to continue providing healthcare workers with health emergency allowances.
DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said during a news conference that they had formally asked the DBM to release P27 billion to cover the period from July to December 2022.The DOH had also asked for funding for the previous months of 2022 and arrears from July to December 2021.“The DBM issued a response to us, I think on Tuesday, and in the letter they responded that they are continuously trying to identify funds so we can provide for our healthcare workers.
“So sabi lang nila, as of now, we still need to wait for this identification of additional revenues so that we can fulfill our obligation to our healthcare workers,” she added.Last week, the DBM said the health emergency allowance, or One COVID-19 Allowance, falls under unprogrammed appropriations, and it
first with the Bureau of the Treasury if the government has available excess revenue to cover the request .“In light of this, allow us to note that upon checking the status of fund releases to DOH as of October 30, 2022, there is still an unobligated amount of P113,925,437,435.39, including the P40.273 billion releases for COVID-19 vaccines which is not expected to be further pursued this year,” the DBM said in a statement on November 17.
“This allotment may be used for other similar priority projects, such as the OCA/HEA, that can be obligated within the fiscal year, subject to a BTr certification for any excess collection and/or new revenue collections from tax and non-taxes revenue sources,” it said. —
