Residents say air pollution is still plaguing the area two years after the issue was first raised in the media.

Community activist Yee Poh Ping said lorries transporting sand to and from a sand wholesaler along Jalan 1/40 were to blame.“Kuala Lumpur City Hall should instruct the wholesaler to comply with the rules strictly,” he said.

In a report on Jan 12, 2021, titled “Taman Pusat Kepong residents seek end to air pollution problem” Yee had highighted the issue.Yee had also recommended that a pond be built to enable wheel-washing for lorries exiting the area.“Build the pond or at least ensure the wheels of lorries are washed upon exiting the premises.”

On Dec 29 last year, DBKL issued two notices under Section 47 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 to the sand wholesaler for scattering debris on public roads, and under Section 69 of the Local Council Act 1976 for allowing mud to flow into public drains.“Motorists driving along Jalan 1/40 complain of the dust in the air caused by trails of sand along the road.

“When it rains, the sand becomes muddy, and I have seen drivers’ windscreens obstructed by the mud,” added Yee.He added that if the sand wholesaler continues to flout the regulations, DBKL would revoke their licence to operate.
