The talk show host's comments come just weeks after a Black comedian exited the sketch show
Sherri Shepherd recently called out "Saturday Night Live" for the lack of Black women in its cast. “When I watched Saturday Night Live this weekend, I did notice something was missing: Ego Nwodim left the show,” Shepherd said.
“She was their only Black female cast member, so now there are no Black women on SNL. So what do I say to SNL? Y’all gotta hurry up and you gotta find somebody, this is a break glass in case of an emergency. It is an emergency.” Shepherd, 58, went on to emphasize the importance of having representation on SNL, recounting the show’s sketches of “The View,” a show she formerly co-hosted. Shepherd explained that SNL star Kenan Thompson and actor-comedian Tracy Morgan portrayed Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg because there were no Black women in the cast at the time.
