Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has updated what voters are allowed to wear to polling locations when voting in the 2024 election.

Under what Cuyahoga County Board of Elections previously described as guidance from LaRose’s office, “any clothing/attire or paraphernalia worn that an objective observer would reasonably conclude to be clearly advocating for or against the election of a particular political party’s candidate or for or against the election of a particular candidate“ was prohibited.
Slogans associated with a political party, candidate or ballot question or issue are not prohibited if they do not violate the prohibitions. LaRose said, if voters insist on wearing attire at polling places that is “directly advocating” for a candidate or ballot issue – such as clothing with a candidate’s name or logo or statements like “vote for” or “vote against” a tax levy or ballot issue – elections officials will write their names down and could prosecute them for
The secretary of state said elections officials in different counties asked his office to provide “clear guidance” to them, as some officials are more permissive than others when it comes to what voter attire to allow.
