Day off a chance to beat the heat for slumping leadoff man: Guardians takeaways

LOS ANGELES — Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said giving leadoff hitter Steven Kwan a day off Sunday made sense for a variety of reasons. Currently Ben Lively is set to pitch Monday and Matthew Boyd will go on Wednesday in Chicago with Tuesday’s starter to be determined. Williams became the first Cleveland starter unable to complete the opening inning since Triston McKenzie in June of 2021 against Seattle. Vogt said Williams will be better after the experience.
