Search resumes after Alabama tornado leaves at least 23 dead, including children
BEAUREGARD, Ala.—Rescue teams searched for victims Monday, one day after a powerful tornado ripped through a rural community of farmland and mobile homes in southeast Alabama Sunday, killing 23 people, including several children, local officials said.
The number of people still missing is in the double digits, and the death toll may rise, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said at a news conference Monday morning. Local hospitals are treating injuries that range from minor to very severe, he said.
