While claiming they want to be transparent with the public, the Davis County Sheriff’s Office refused multiple requests to do an on-camera interview and answer our questions. Instead, they released a Facebook video attacking the media, and making excuses for how this happened.
We can’t show you video evidence of Adam Burdick being booked into the jail that night because Davis County Sheriff Kelly Sparks denied our request for jail surveillance video citing jail intake video is a protected record and not releasable and that if disclosed, would jeopardize the security or safety of a correctional facility. He also cited that it was an open and active investigation and reasonably could be expected to interfere with investigations of the Burdick brothers in his denial.
That man on the body camera video was Adam Burdick. Once out of the restroom entryway they are in the middle of the store and Officer Pence asks him if he has an ID on him. He says, “I don't.”He then asks him, “What’s your date of birth?”Davis County Sheriff’s Deputy Steed walks into the store and Officer Pence tells him, “So, I was just sitting across the street they've been, kind of robbing the store blind.
With regards to the deception that was staring them right in the face, he said he thought his days were numbered, “I figured they would figure it out right away, you know. I had no idea that I was gonna sit in there over two months, um, and nobody was ever gonna figure it out.”
