After pitching in the World Series for the Philadelphia Phillies to close the 2022 season, David Robertson, a former Paul Bryant High and Alabama standout, will be suiting up in a new uniform in 2023.
Robertson divided his 2022 season between the Chicago Cubs and the Phillies, who acquired him in a trade on Aug. 2. He had a 4-3 record with a 2.40 earned-run average and 20 saves last season. In 58 relief appearances, he yielded 39 hits and 35 walks and struck out 81 in 63.
2 innings. Robertson sustained a leg injury in the postseason and missed the Phillies’ divisional series against the Atlanta Braves. But he came back to work in three games in the National League Championship Series against the San Diego Padres and four games in the World Series against the Houston Astros, including a save in the opener. The Astros won the World Series in six games. Robertson has pitched in 14 Major League seasons, resurrecting his career after missing the 2020 campaign following Tommy John surgery. He was an American League All-Star for the New York Yankees in 2011. In 731 regular-season games, Robertson has a 57-36 record with a 2.89 ERA and 157 saves. In 739.1 innings, he has yielded 550 hits and 305 walks while striking out 977. In 41 postseason games, Robertson has a 6-0 record with a 2.78 ERA and one save. In 45.1 innings, he has yielded 35 hits and 16 walks while striking out 53. Robertson will be part of a Mets’ bullpen rebuilt quickly after free-agent losses.
