, saying,"This is what Jeremy would love. He loved being the centre of attention. And when I saw him last week ... where we knew he was dying, he said, 'Look, I just want people to be happy. People mustn't be sad.'"

"When I met him last week, he got out of bed, and he came to the Jozi Gin Bar because ... we met in pubs; our lives revolved around pubs. So, we met in a pub and had some beers." "I was a journalism honours student at the time, and he was a first-year student," he recalls."We were laughing because we worked out that we met when we were barely out of our teens, and we're now about to become pensioners."

O'Sullivan says his friend was a"marvellous actor", which was one of the reasons he was so successful in his radio career. "We pretended that they could watch a tugboat towing an iceberg up the coast of KwaZulu-Natal," O'Sullivan recalls, adding that to make it realistic they faked an interview with the supposed captain of the tugboat, which, of course, Mansfield's voiced.

"He would just listen to conversations. He would hear the jokes, hear the funny anecdotes, and then he'd go, 'Oh, I can use that.' He was this astute observer of human behaviour."
