Not funny, David. Not funny...
Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku takes a selfie with an iPhone belonging to a fan after the game against the Cincinnati Bengals.CLEVELAND, Ohio — David Njoku asked the Browns to trade him for the third time on Friday, but this time it really was fake news.
He duped even the likes of Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, who shared it to his 3.3 million followers on his @rapsheet Twitter account and made it go viral. Indeed, any team trading for Njoku would have to surrender two first-round picks for him under terms of the non-exclusive franchise tag applied last month, which will pay him $10.931 million this season unless he signs an extension first. The Browns would have a chance to match the offer.
GM Andrew Berry, who was was the Browns Vice President of Player Personnel in 2017 when they traded back up into the first round to draft him at No. 29 overall, believes Njoku is capable of much more than the 30 receptions, 350 yards and three “Chief Slam” end zone celebrations he’s averaged in his five seasons.
