McAtee owned and operated a barbecue restaurant, Yaya’s BBQ, in Louisville’s West End. His shop is next door to the Dino’s Food Mart parking lot where the shooting took place. McAtee’s mother said her son fed law enforcement officers at his shop. "He fed them free," she told the. "He fed the police and didn't charge them nothing. My son was a good son. Local leaders remembered McAtee as a force for good in the community.
